C'est la vie!: 2012

Thoughts about L-I-F-E. Random.

For the past few days I've seen countless of friends sharing the same videos. Kony 2012. It caught my eyes after awhile, I wasn't attentive when it comes to videos uploaded by people on FB, Kony has definitely got me this time.

So I went on and googled for Joseph Kony, to satisfy my curiosity. And this was what I read: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Kony. Let's take a look at this guy:

Now I have an idea of who he is. What's so great about this guy that everyone on FB is now wanting to make him famous? I'd personally label him as Satan. Just when everyone in the country is talking about the NFC scandal, or the very recent Section 17 dog abuse case, has anyone actually paid attention to this video? Do those people truly understand the message behind the video made by Jason Russell? Or it was just a trend to share the video, since everyone is doing so? (no personal prejudice against anyone, sincerely, personal statement peeps)

Then I started to reflect on my life, for the past 27 years. I've been living a moderate life, just like anyone else at my age. We went to the uni, got a degree, started our very first job, got our first pay, bought something we had always wanted, got a bf/gf, ended a relationship, found ourselves in dilemma making decisions, eventually got married and have a kid or two. This is the life I believe most of us mould.

It is so often that we indulge ourselves in the world of luxuries. We complain about work, we think that we are not getting a well-deserved paycheck, then we start to complain about staying in a small apartment, driving a cheap car. We have forgotten that all human were born into this world with nothing. Literally N-O-T-H-I-N-G. And we were constantly being educated and reminded of that 'if you wanna get something in your life, you gotta work for it.' True, you gotta work for it. We are a fortunate bunch of people who have a chance to work for it.
Others don't. Who others? No one cares.

I have a friend (whom I will keep him anonymous) who gets annoyed at people who pamper their pets. I'll give an example. The idea of pets staying indoor with the luxury of AC is considered ridiculous. He will then start his 'speech' on how this luxury could be spent on the unfortunate orphans, abandoned old folks, bla bla bla. I used to disagree with him but now, I was left to ponder if perhaps he was right all these while.

Humanity. Maybe to most, it's only a noun, a word by itself. One of the definitions given by the Oxford Dictionary is 'the quality of being humane'.  So what defines humane? It means 'to have or show compassion or benevolence'. Million years of human evolution has not made us better, sadly, we are living in a more pathetic world compared to our parents' time. We fear of everything. We even fear of stepping out to help some random people on the streets. So we became paranoid. We became cautious. We no longer talk to random people. Some no longer smile.

We always got ourselves ecstatic when we talk about the word 'HOPE'. We hope that our wishes will come true. We hope that our wish list could be fulfilled one day. How many times have we ever thought of granting someone else's hope? At the very same time that most of us are occupied with work and busy finding money, there are people who only HOPE to survive. Or to go to school. We are too fortunate that we take almost everything for granted. Our parents, friends, partners, children. How many times have we ever put ourselves in others' shoes in an event of an argument?

So we blame the society for this miserable state we are in. Yet, again.
